2 BRI Strategies to Boost Financial Inclusion in Indonesia

PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk (BBRI) has a number of strategies to contribute to increasing financial inclusion in Indonesia. Considering that financial inclusion is a basic right for all people to have easy access to banking so that they can have a positive impact on life.

BRI President Director Sunarso said there are a number of strategies to improve this, such as presenting BRILink Agents and Ultra Micro Holdings. According to him, the two strategies are able to make it easier for people from various regions not only in urban areas to get access to banking.

Especially for BRILink Agents, he explained that this innovation is not only to increase financial inclusion. But to help people enter the digital era. Considering that the digital world is currently able to cut the cost of an MSME business quite large.

「デジタルは多くの問題、特に高い運用コストの問題を解決します。 High operations can be solved digitally but the community is not yet fully digital, so we come with BRILink Agents," said Sunarso as quoted from CNBC Indonesia's YouTube Channel, Wednesday (26/26/2020). 10/2022).

The concept offered by the BRIlink Agent is also quite unique. Sunarso explained that people who have businesses such as stalls and the like can join BRILink agents. Those who are members can provide banking services such as cash deposits, transfers, and others at stalls. In fact, in the future, BRI will develop BRILink Agents to become trading referrals.

"People have stalls, have grocery stores, then we make them agents who can serve limited banking transactions, for example, withdraw deposits, transfers of all kinds, even now we have developed them to become trading referrals. So BRI doesn't need to open a branch, but the branch has been represented by a BRILink agent, " he explained.

According to him, the innovation of the BRILink Agent, which has been present since 2014, has made a positive performance. Because BRILink agents now have around 560 thousand agents with transaction volumes reaching IDR 1,140 trillion in 2021.

"Then we share the profits there, for example, once the customer has to pay Rp. 5 thousand, Rp. 2 thousand for BRI, Rp. 3 thousand for the customer. This is really sharing the economy," said Sunarso.

It is assumed, if BRI gets a profit of Rp 1.3 trillion from BRILink Agents, then the agent owner can get a higher profit up to three times.

"If the fee received by BRI is Rp 1.3 trillion, it means that the agent received by the community is about three times the income of the community. Let's say Rp 5 thousand (one transaction) but then he (the customer) comes all the way or does he come there (The BRILink agent) has saved on transportation costs for all kinds of motorbike taxis, so it is more efficient, so he gives Rp. 10 thousand, the change is not taken, the change is not taken," he said.

On the other hand, Director of Micro Business of PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) TBK Supari said Ultra Micro Holding is a synergy between BRI, Pegadaian, and Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) to realize complete financial services.

"The goal of inclusive (Holding Ultra Micro) access is to access those who have not been ab正規の金融機関にアクセスし、グレードアップを加速し、 channels must be opened for them to easily access," said Supari.

Supari is optimistic that the presence of Ultra Micro Holding will be able to accelerate financial inclusion. This is because the three companies have large enough resources.

"With this integration, the resources for accelerating inclusion are solid and integrated. PNM has 34,000 marketers, BRI 27,000 later, Pegadaian 4,000 more. The 66 thousand marketers are examples of very large resources," he said.

He said the three companies have also been integrated with an application, namely SenyuM Mobile. Where currently has 25 million data combined from the three companies.

According to him, the big data is able to make it easier to assess the behavior of MSME entrepreneurs. So that the needs of MSME actors can be presented according to their needs.

Not only that, the presence of Holding Ultra Micro is also able to provide economic and social impacts. Because Ultra Micro Holding is able to provide greater financing to MSME actors in Indonesia.

「ポイントは、エンパワーメントのためのリテラシーの必要性を分離するために、マイクロビジネス関係者の行動を評価できるということです。 Hopefully, with solid BRI empowerment in Ultra Micro, there will be an acceleration of class promotion," he said.

Meanwhile, Harvard Kennedy School Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy Jay K. Rosengard believes that even the steps taken by BRI through Holding Ultra Micro are considered appropriate. This is because the merger of the three companies is able to provide banking services more efficiently, especially to those who have access to banking.

"Then they changed their operations or their core business. BRI also lends funds to PNM which they can lend to the public and entrepreneurs," said Jay.

The presence of Ultra Micro Holding is also able to strengthen development in exploring sustainable markets. Even though Holding Ultra Micro is only about a year old, he believes other countries can follow this strategy.

「間違いはあるだろうが、他の国はこれから学ぶことができると思う。 But mistakes can be corrected," he concluded.
